KEEPING CHARITIES AND NOT-FOR-PROFITS "IN THE LOOP"
The Annual Church & Charity Law Seminar ("Seminar") is in its eighteenth year and is hosted by Carters Professional Corporation ("Carters"), a law firm with experience in advising churches, charities, and not-for-profit organizations both nationally and internationally. This year’s Seminar will be held on Thursday, November 10, 2011. The Seminar normally sells out by the end of October, with an excess of 800 people in attendance.
Enthusiasm over the Seminar in both locations is expected to continue this year as indicated by comments shared by some of the attendees:
"The best investment in fiduciary responsibility our charity makes all year. Nowhere else is so much relevant information presented to so many by so few in so compressed a time. An annual "must attend" for us."
"The material covered was great and very extensive. The specific examples related to the charity law were a very helpful to understand the law."
"Loved the CRA presentation! Very helpful."
"I was very impressed with the seminar. It was my first. There was not too much lawyer jargon."
The Seminar is designed to assist churches and charities in understanding developing trends in the law in order to reduce unnecessary exposure to legal liability. The continuously evolving statutory regime governing churches and charities consists of numerous, complex and, in some cases, unexpected legislative requirements that can all too easily be overlooked.
Cathy Hawara (Director General, Charities Directorate, Canada Revenue Agency Ottawa, Ontario), will assist the lawyers from Carters, and other specific speakers, in covering various legal issues pertaining to churches and charities. Ten diverse and important topics are offered:
1. CRA Update, including "Keeping on the Right Side of CRA"
2. Overview of Continuing Under the CNCA and ONCA
3. Governance Issues From the Budget Affecting Churches and Charities
4. Protecting People Worldwide: Risk and Insurance for Missions, Relief and Development Organizations
5. Complying with CRA’s New Fundraising Guidance (Revised 2011)
6. Director & Officer Liability Issues for Churches and Charities
7. Essential Charity Law Update
8. Foreign Activities: How to Get Ready for an Audit
9. Political Activities – What Churches and Charities Can and Cannot Do
10. Social Media: An Emerging Issue in the Work Place for Churches and Charities
The Seminar will be held at the Portico Community Church (near Eglinton Avenue and Old Mississauga Road), 1814 Barbertown Road, Mississauga, Ontario, from 8:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. Complimentary coffee, tea, and muffins will be served at 7:45 a.m., as well as during a mid-morning break. The early registration fee of $25.00 per person (plus HST) has been kept to a minimum in order that as many churches and charities can attend as possible. This fee helps to underwrite the cost of the facilities, refreshment, and handout materials, but does not include lunch. A catered lunch may be purchased at the Church for $8.00, or ordered in advance using the registration form. To register or for more information, please see the notice at www.charitylaw.ca, or contact Carters toll free at 1-877-942-0001 ext. 230 or by email at
. The registration fee increases after Friday, October 31, 2011.

Israel is Still Gods Clock - So What Time Is It?
It's Time to wake-up!
"And they will fall by the edge of the sword, and be led away captive into all nations. And Jerusalem will be trampled by Gentiles until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled.”
Prophecy, as we are accustomed to encountering it within Scripture, often seems somewhat mysterious and undefined. We may wonder what good reason there is for this, Read More

Walking The Narrow Gate.
"Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it. Matthew 7:13-14
They change the truth for lie
who exchanged the truth of God for the lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen.

How could one chase a thousand, And two put ten thousand to flight, Unless their Rock had sold them, And the LORD had surrendered them?

Mothers, Abortion, and North America’s Future
As we approach Mother’s Day in the U.S. and Canada this year, I find myself thinking of my mother’s unselfish concern for my sister and me. It causes me to recall my family’s first winter in Alaska when I was a very small child.
We found ourselves stranded by bad weather in our cabin for several months, as our food supply dwindled dangerously low. Wild game was also scarce because of the weather. The situation became so serious that our provisions were nearly gone except for some smoked fish, raisins, popcorn, and a little flour. My mother ground the popcorn, mixing it with flour and water to make pancakes. readmore

What about the Children?
When does life begin?
Contrary to popular thought, there are a growing number of people, who believe the scientific and biblical evidence that life begins at conception. The Bible clearly shows that life begins at conception. In Jeremiah 1:5, God speaks to Jeremiah saying, “I knew you before I formed you in your mother’s womb. Before you were born, I set you apart and appointed you as my spokesman to the world.” In Psalms 139:13-16 David records his conversation with God. “You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body and knit me together in my mother’s womb. Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex! Your workmanship is marvellous- how well I know it. You watched me as I was being formed in utter seclusion... You saw me before I was born. Everyday of my life was recorded in your book.” Readmore

The Blessing Without Measure
Baby, who made your tiny hands? Who made your little feet? Who made your tiny head so soft and sweet? Baby, who made your little mouth? Who made your tiny eyes? Who made your little nose? You are complete! When does life begin at birth or at the time of conception?
If you are a born-again child of God, you are BLESSED!
At Kenneth Copeland Ministries, Canada, we are on a divine mission to let God’s people know that THE BLESSING – that God gave Adam in the Garden of Eden – that empowered them to be fruitful and have dominion over the earth – that He gave to Abraham that made him heir of the world and a blessing to all the families of the earth.... A young lad by the name of Michael Duku was a student of unusual brilliance even in his earliest school days. He lived and went to school in war-torn Southern Sudan.
When the extremist Islamists from the north of Sudan invaded their own predominantly Christian south, they were on the look-out for youngsters whom they could set aside as promising young scholars and train them in special schools for the particularly gifted. Michael was one of those chosen, together with another young lad of his tribe.
As they were transported over two hundred miles, they were told they would be enrolled in a school for specialized training for future service to their country. Readmore
